Highlights on CSR initiatives

A humble beginning towards C.S.R. was initiated with the singular mission of incorporating social wellbeing initiatives with the business process of the company. In our C.S.R initiatives we are relatively young in this important and committed mission. We share below the gradual and humble growth.

EDUCATION C.R.I.’s VISION : To make the Government Schools in Coimbatore District as model school in terms of infrastructure and quality of education in the whole country. Every year financial assistance is extended to schools for betterment of basic infrastructure facilities such as drinking water, compound wall, green boards and Computers etc. CRI extends financial support to build these infrastructure facilities in addition to the fund allocated by the Government. The students are also provided with notebooks and other required educational accessories.

The details of 8 Government Schools adopted under the Schools Improvement Scheme of Government of Tamilnadu are furnished below.

    1.Infrastructure

 

  1. Construction of additional class rooms and laboratories based on requirement.
  2. Carry out civil works such as repair, renovation of classrooms, staff rooms and noon meal centre kitchen etc.
  3. Provision of facilities for sufficient potable drinking water and ensuring availability of it on continuous basis.
  4. Repairing and maintenance of toilets
  5. Ensure availability of leveled playground
  6. Guarding the school premises by providing compound wall
  7. Ensuring availability of security personnel during night time.

In addition to the CSR activities at adopted Government Schools, CRI Trust carried out a major project in Siddhapudur Government Higher Secondary School, Coimbatore. The basic infrastructure work was carried out in this school and in addition, an exclusive multipurpose auditorium was built with,

  1. All sophisticated audio visual facilities.
  2. This auditorium is being used for conducting programmes as well as for indoor games.
  3. The auditorium built up area is 400 sq.mtrs and it can accommodate 350 participants..
  4. It is rated as one of the best auditorium in Coimbatore as well as in the State.
  5. This Auditorium is being managed by the Coimbatore Corporation and all important Government functions are conducted here.

    2.Education
  1. In addition to the availability of Government Teachers, CRI appoints teachers to maintain the teacher – student ratio of 1:40.
  2. The CRI appointed teachers take the additional responsibility of coaching the identified slow learners in the standards between 1-9th
  3. The school final year students are given additional coaching after school hours in the school premises by our teachers.

    Provide notebooks, Computers, Desk ,benches for school & writing materials and bags for needy students

  4. Providing Rank badges for class toppers in order to motivate them to excel in the academics.
  5. Monitor absenteeism level among students and counsel the identified absentees on continuous basis
  6. Providing Merit Certificates and Cash awards for students excelling in academics, sports and literary fields. Extend Motivation class to the final year students through professionals for development of
  7. concentration power, memory skills and confidence to face public examination. Provide Model Question papers with answers for students’ reference to improve their performance in board examination
  8. Extend Educational scholarship for meritorious students to continue higher studies after school final.
  9. Vocational Trainings are conducted during the summer holidays to bring out inherent talent in the students, to spend their vacation time in a useful manner and to learn dignity of labor.

    We have arranged well trained faculty for the Computer, Handwriting, Tailoring, Bridal makeup, Embroidery, drawing, painting and handicraft class and materials were provided by us. The students participated in the above trainings with zeal and enthusiasm These activities benefit the children by improving their team-working skills, social interaction and building their confidence

    3.HEALTH, HYGIENE AND SPORTS
  1. Ensure availability of Scavengers at adopted schools.
  2. Provided cleaning materials, Garbage bins etc to schools.
  3. Mass cleaning of campus has been carried out at schools.
  4. Arranged health camps for school children.
  5. Carried out Tree plantation in schools.
  6. Conducted Yoga and Meditation classes for school students.
  7. Provide sports equipments and materials for use by the school students.

The above programme is being organized in all schools supported by CRI by providing Merit Certificates and prizes for winners in academics, cultural and sports.

HEALTH CARE AND SOCIAL WELFARE

Financial assistance has been extended to old age homes like Cheshire Old age home and providing expensive medical, surgical treatment for selected poor and deserving persons. Such financial assistance is given every year to deserving Institution and persons. The deserving persons are selected on the basis of their income, ability to mobilize own funds, need, urgency etc.

ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH & SAFETY

CRI is committed to sustain high standards of environment, health & safety as an integral part of its business. It is committed to protect the environment in which it operates and ensure safety and health of its employees’ and business associates.

Towards this, CRI has initiated companywide implementation of EHS Processes and also obtained ISO 14001 accreditation.

As part of Environment, health & safety implementations C.R.I pumps promotes safety programmes and various other awareness programmes to educate employees and nearby communities.

EMPLOYEE INVOLVEMENT

C.R.I employees actively participate and involve themselves in all our C.S.R initiatives

  1. Employee’s help to teach children in our adopted Government Schools.
  2. Conduct educational sessions, greening initiatives in schools, neighborhoods, and nearby villages.
  3. Our employees organize program in Government Schools and impart training in social etiquette to the School students.
  4. Blood donation camps organized every year by our employees.
  5. Noyyalukku Nooru was an endeavor through which NGOs like Siruthuli hoped to rejuvenate and recreate Mother Noyyal River. Our Employees and Management contributed Rs.5, 02,200 for the above cause.
PROMOTION OF SPORTS ANNUAL BASKET BALL TOURNAMENTS FOR WOMEN - C.R.I TROPHY

Basket Ball is a popular sport in Coimbatore and it needs continuous support for sustenance. C.R.I.Pumps is one among the top few patrons for this event.

To meet the twin objective of promoting the game and to encourage participation of women, C.R.I.Pumps conducts an All India Basket Ball Tournament for women annually since 2002. The Trophy is in the name of “C.R.I. Pumps Trophy” and along with the Trophy a cash prize of Rs.40, 000/- is given to the Winners and Rs.20, 000/- for the Runners is awarded. The semi-final teams are given Rs.5, 000/- each as reward.

GASIFIER CREMATORIUM AT SARAVANAMPATTI, COIMBATORE

A need has been felt by the local community in Saravanampatti Panchayat area, to have a modern infrastructure for cremation. Since C.R.I.Pumps is having one of its manufacturing units in Saravanampatti, it has decided to take up the social cause of providing a Gasified Crematorium for the people of Saravanampatti and surrounding areas under its CSR activities. After completion of the project the crematorium had been handed over to the Sarvanampatti Panchayat, and it is being maintained by CRI for 10 years through an Administrative Committee consisting of members from the Trust, Local Authority and representatives of public. The advantage of the gasified crematorium is less consumption of time for burning the dead bodies and in the process pollution is controlled. The fuel used is Biomass which is a Renewable Source of Energy whereby green energy is promoted.

Implemented rainwater harvesting structure in our Manufacturing Units and efforts are being taken,

  1. To create awareness among public through media about the necessity for adopting measures to replenish water in its natural storages to prevent water pollution and water wastage.
  2. To set up model Rain Water harvesting projects in places where there is scarcity of water.
  3. To train people in the methods of replenishing water and preventing its wastage and pollution.

Since the products of C.R.I are intimately connected with agriculture, the company intends to contribute towards the betterment of agriculture as a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. Towards achieving this objective, the company has proposed to present Awards to Agriculturists to encourage them to adopt better agricultural practices and to focus on critical aspects of agriculture which are of national interest. CRI has created an endowment in Tamilnadu Agricultural University (TNAU) to honor the best Farmers in the state every year with Velaan Chemmal Award based on their innovative farm experiences on the following areas as part of our corporate social responsibility programme. 1. Improved water management technologies 2. Achievement of highest yield in agricultural/horticultural crops preferably vegetables 3. Organic farming 4. Dry land agriculture technology 5. Utilization of farm mechanization in agriculture

SUPPORT TOWARDS HIV
Support towards hiv

As a new C.S.R   initiative we have provided health insurance coverage to the children infected with HIV in Coimbatore district.The assistance provided by us will ensure quality medical support needed by them currently. We are proud that we are the first Corporate to initiate Health Insurance coverage to children affected by HIV in Coimbatore district.

FORMATION OF RED RIBBON CLUB

The Govt. of Tamil Nadu has identified CRI as one of the few selected Corporate actively involved in CSR for the formation of RED RIBBON CLUB.  In this context,   we have inaugurated a ‘Red Ribbon Club’ in association with District AIDS Prevention Control Unit at our Chinnavedampatti unit, Coimbatore on 21st February, 2011.

Formation of Red Ribbon club in Corporates would help in creating awareness on AIDS among employees as well as the community nearby.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
Activities

Every year CRI donates money to NGOs which are serving for various public causes such as water conservation, creation of civic facilities, creating awareness for maintaining clean environment by properly using public amenities and facilities. The prominent NGO beneficiaries are Siruthuli and RAAC. Converting the concept into reality requires a great deal of vision, commitment, devotion besides wherewithal and the unstinted support from within the organization at all level and from outside including governmental and nongovernmental both material and moral support.
